Asian Development Bank Scholarship Program

Call for requests for the Asian Development Bank Scholarship program 2020-21 (fully funded) are open to all international students. The ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP) selects about 300-students every year in the best academic institutions located in 9-countries (Mentioned below) within the Region.  

The ADB-Japan scholarship program is a fully-funded scholarship program for all international students. All the costs during the scholarships are covered, and there is no need to submit the application fee. The ADB scholarship offers full tuition fees, a monthly stipend for expenses, housing & book allowances, medical insurance, instructional materials, and travel allowances. 


Asian Development Bank Scholarship Program offers an opportunity for qualified partners of ADB’s developing fellow’s nations (Mentioned Below) to commence the postgraduate studies and other development-related fields.

  • This master scholarship available for one year with the facility of an extension to the second year of study, as applicable, which shall be restricted on the continuing a satisfactory level of performance by the scholar as determined by the host institute.
  • The maximum period of the award is two years for a master’s program.

Benefits of Asian Development Bank Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship Program 2020 will cover

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly subsistence and housing allowance 
  • A grant for books and other educational materials
  • Medical insurance and travel expenses will be provided
  • Thesis and Research allowance: For those scholars involved in research, an exceptional contribution in some conditions available for thesis preparation. In extraordinary circumstances, preparatory language, computer literacy, and other similar options are covered under the scholarship.
  • An Economy Class Air travel will be given at the start and end of study from and to student home country and the host university.
  • In addition to the two-way air travel, the beneficiary will receive a US$500 amount for travel allowance.

Please note that all JJ/WBGSP scholarships cover two years or the duration of the graduate-program, whichever is less.

Requirements of Asian Development Bank

All details on Eligibility Criteria for the application process are given in that call’s Application Guidelines, and students have strictly adhered to these guidelines. No omissions are made.

Be a citizen of a World Bank member developing country· Students having Dual citizenship of any developed countries are not eligible.

  • “Gained admission to associate approved MA course at a tutorial establishment.”
  • Also, earned a bachelor’s degree (16-years) or equaling to bachelors with a high distinction educational record at least three years before the Application Deadline date.
  • Have at least three years or more recent work experience related to development work after receiving the degree.
  • The Maximum age for applying is 35-years.
  • Under the scholarship program rule, the student must return immediately to their home country after completing his studies to serve his/her nation.
  • Additionally, the student must be in good health;
  • Executive administrators, management, consultants, Alternate administrators, the ADBmployees, and shut relatives of the same aren’t eligible.
  • Moreover, the ADB-JSP employees selected institutions aren’t available.
  • Candidates who are living or working during a country then again their home country aren’t qualified.

  • The aspirant Candidates should request the information about scholarship and application forms from the desired or chosen academic institution(s).
  • Candidates should specify to the educational institution that they are applying for admission and want to be considered for the Asian bank development Scholarship program.
  • Submit all the required documents such as Complete application form, ADB-JSP Scholarship form, and other necessary certificates to the academic institute.
  • The Applicants have to ensure that they submit the correct and complete records.  


The host academic institution will evaluate the application and rank the applicants according to their selection criteria, considering the ADB’s selection criteria and eligibility requirements. In the screening process, the host academic institute may contact the applicants for further details and information. Then the educational institution submits its list of selected applicants to ADB board, with a description of the grading/score system, which is the basis for the ranking.

The selection committee of ADB will analyze the submission forms submitted by the academic institutions and recommend the awardees according to the selection criteria of ADB to the” Executive Director of Japan” for official approval.

After the executive director of japan’s approval, the ADB will instruct the host academic institutions on the selected candidates.

The academic institution will then inform all the selected applicants and start making preparations for the awardees to take up their scholarships.

The host academic institutions will organize for the signing of the acceptance of scholarship by receiver wherein the scholarship receiver is agreeing about the return to home country after completion of the study.

Also, the ADB-JSP will send a congratulatory letter to selected scholars through the university.
